FolkArt Dragonfly Glaze Acrylic Paint Product Demonstration 🎨

tips and tricks Mar 12, 2025

Recently, I stumbled upon a fascinating product: FolkArt Dragonfly Glaze. It's a color-shifting, glitter-like medium that promises to add a unique sparkle to your artwork. Intrigued, I decided to put it to the test, especially after using it in a recent project within our Shattered Circle community, where we applied it over a dragonfly design.

This isn't your average, run-of-the-mill paint. It's a glaze that reacts differently depending on the background color. That's why I wanted to dive deep and see how it performs over a variety of hues.

I grabbed a canvas and some vibrant acrylic paints, including a set of spring-inspired colors I recently picked up. My goal was simple: to paint sections of different colors and then apply the Dragonfly Glaze over each, showcasing its transformative effect.

We started with a classic black, as it was the base for our dragonfly project and really made the glaze pop. Then, we moved on to:

  • Peacock Teal (a personal favorite)
  • Metallic Gold
  • Citron Green
  • Coral Blush
  • Carousel Pink
  • And, of course, a section of plain white

The glaze comes in a set of four color-shifting shades:

  • Red Violet Blue
  • Green Gold Red
  • Blue Green Gold
  • Violet Blue Green

Each one offers a unique shimmer and color shift, depending on the angle and lighting.

The Results

Applying each glaze color over the various paint sections revealed some interesting results.

  • Black: Without a doubt, the black background made the Dragonfly Glaze shine the brightest. The color shifts were most pronounced, and the sparkle was captivating.
  • Teal and Pink: These colors also provided a good base, though the shimmer was more subtle.
  • Metallic Gold: Surprisingly, the gold didn't offer as much of a dramatic effect.
  • White: As expected, the glaze barely showed up on the white background. It needs a colored base to truly shine.
  • Darker Colors: Darker colors in general, like a Midnight Garden Teal, and a navy, showed the dragonfly glaze very well.

The Dragonfly Glaze is a fantastic product for adding a touch of magic to your artwork. However, it's important to consider the background color. Darker colors, especially black, will yield the most striking results.

Tips and Takeaways:

  • Dark backgrounds are your friend when working with Dragonfly Glaze.
  • Experiment with different colors to see how the glaze reacts.
  • This product is best for projects where you want a unique, shimmering effect.

I'm excited to explore this product further in future projects. Stay tuned for more creative adventures!
